Shore-casting and pier fishing at Michigan City (just east of the park) target Lake Michigan's coho + chinook salmon (spring + fall runs), steelhead (winter + spring), lake trout, yellow perch, and brown trout. The Trail Creek tributary at Michigan City is a major steelhead and salmon spawning run.
  • Inland-water context: the park's inland kettle-bog lakes (Long Lake), wetland channels (Cowles Bog, Pinhook Bog), and small tributary streams (Dunes Creek, Salt Creek, Little Calumet River reaches) hold warmwater species — largemouth bass, sunfish / bluegill, channel catfish, northern pike where habitat allows, plus carp in the Calumet system. Most inland waters are managed primarily for ecological values rather than as developed sport fisheries.
