A valid Ohio fishing licence is required to fish in Cuyahoga Valley National Park (children under 16 are exempt). Ohio Division of Wildlife regulations apply except where a federal NPS regulation conflicts — in that case the federal rule supersedes the state rule.

What to know before you fish Cuyahoga Valley

  • Hook-and-line only with the rod or line being closely attended — no jug, set, trot, or unattended lines; no nets, spears, or traps; no drugs, poisons, explosives, or electricity; no commercial fishing.
  • Possessing or using live or dead minnows, other bait fish, amphibians, or non-preserved fish eggs / fish roe is PROHIBITED except in specifically designated waters — confirm any water before bringing live bait.
  • No chumming and no introducing wildlife / fish / plants (or their reproductive bodies) into park waters — this includes dumping the contents of any bait bucket. Carry out unused bait.
  • No fishing from motor-road bridges, within 200 feet of a public raft or float designated for water sports, or within designated swimming beach / public boat dock limits — read posted signage at the Cuyahoga River, Brandywine Falls, Beaver Marsh, and the towpath access points.
