South Zone. From the Bancroft Road bridge in South Bancroft downstream to the Route 170 bridge in Kingman Township: open to open-water and ice fishing year-round (January 1 – December 31); all legal forms of bait, artificial lures and artificial flies permitted. From July 1 – September 30, the reach from the red posts at The Heaters (above Gordon Falls in Winn) down to the confluence with the Penobscot River is artificial lures only. A major smallmouth-bass and brook-trout river joining the Penobscot at Mattawamkeag. (MDIFW 2026 Special Fishing Laws.)
