Sheepshead — the black-and-white-banded 'convict fish' with human-like teeth — are Florida's premier structure-oriented inshore target, stacking up around bridge pilings, jetties, oyster bars, docks, and nearshore wrecks on both coasts. Their rules are refreshingly simple and uniform: a 12-inch minimum and 8 fish per harvester per day, the same in Gulf and Atlantic state waters and into adjacent federal waters. The one twist is a spawning-run safeguard — during March and April, when sheepshead mass on nearshore structure to spawn, a 50-fish-per-vessel daily cap applies on top of the per-person bag.
