An Arkansas state fishing licence is required to fish in Hot Springs National Park, and all Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) regulations apply except where a federal NPS rule below overrides them.

What to know before you fish Hot Springs

  • Hook-and-line only with the rod or line closely attended — no trot lines, no jug lines, no nets, no spears, no traps, no commercial fishing, no use of drugs / poisons / explosives / electricity in park waters.
  • Live or dead bait fish, amphibians, and non-preserved fish eggs or roe are PROHIBITED except in waters specifically designated for them — Hot Springs has no general bait-fish allowance, so bring no live bait unless current rules specifically permit it for the water you are fishing.
  • Chumming and the introduction of any wildlife, fish, or plants into park waters are prohibited — this includes dumping bait or bait buckets. Digging for bait is prohibited except on private inholdings.
  • No fishing from motor-road bridges or within 200 feet of any public raft / float / designated swimming beach / public boat dock unless the area is specifically designated for fishing — Hot Springs NP's primary fishery is Lake Catherine + Lake Hamilton boundary waters; the park itself is mostly the bathhouse-district mountain area with limited stream fishing.
