Saltwater anglers must additionally attach the Saltwater Information Program Permit (SIP) to their fishing licence (the SIP carries NO additional charge for licensed anglers). The park itself sets only minimal layered rules — designated dock-fishing courtesy guidance and a fish-cleaning station at the North End of Sea Camp Dock.

  • Park context: Cumberland Island National Seashore protects ~36,000 acres on Georgia's largest, southernmost, and most pristine barrier island — accessible only by passenger ferry from St Marys (no causeway). The island runs ~17 miles north-south along the Atlantic coast immediately north of the Florida state line (Amelia Island sits directly south across the St Marys Inlet). Famous for the namesake feral horses (wild herd of ~150-200), the ruins of the Carnegie family's Dungeness mansion, and primitive backcountry camping. The main angler-facing zones are the Atlantic surf along the east-side beach, the brackish marshes and tidal creeks on the Cumberland Sound (west) side, and freshwater inland lakes that hold a stream-fishery for trout, bream, and largemouth bass.
  • Georgia licence framework: GADNR issues the Georgia Fishing Licence — resident and non-resident options, multiple durations. Anglers 16 or older MUST possess a Georgia Fishing Licence to fish anywhere on the seashore (saltwater, freshwater, or shellfish gathering).   • Anchor species: Atlantic surf side delivers Georgia red drum (slot regulated by GADNR), spotted seatrout, whiting, southern flounder, sheepshead, black drum, and occasional Spanish mackerel + bluefish in season; tarpon migration July-August along the outer shoreline. Cumberland Sound + tidal-creek wade fishery for slot redfish + speckled trout + flounder. Freshwater inland lakes (a small system in the interior north of Dungeness) hold sunfish (bluegill / redear) and largemouth bass under GADNR freshwater regulations. Shrimp and crabs may be gathered from the marshes per GADNR recreational shellfish rules.
