A valid Alaska state fishing licence is required to fish anywhere in the preserve. Alaska state fishing regulations apply to the extent they do not conflict with federal regulations or NPS rules.

What to know before you fish Bering Land Bridge

  • Located on the central Seward Peninsula across from Russia at the Bering Strait — among the most isolated NPS units. Headline species: Pacific salmon and Dolly Varden in the freshwater streams and lakes scattered across the tundra and volcanic-crater country, plus the wider mix of Arctic / Sub-Arctic species typical of the region.
  • Bears are present throughout the preserve. Practice standard wildlife-safety protocols: do not surprise bears at close range, keep catch contained and food storage away from sleeping areas, and surrender catch (cut line / give slack) if a bear approaches.
  • For current sport-fishing information, the ADF&G Nome office is the working desk for the area — they publish in-season management updates and emergency orders for Seward Peninsula waters. NPS itself does not publish a regulation booklet specific to the preserve.
  • Access is by chartered float plane from Nome or via the rare overland route in winter; there are no roads into the preserve and no in-park licence sales. Buy the Alaska licence in Nome or online from ADF&G before flying out.
  • Headquarters is in Nome — visit the Bering Land Bridge Visitor Center for current ice / river conditions before any trip.
