A valid Alaska sport fishing licence is REQUIRED of all non-residents 16 and over and most Alaska residents 16 to 59. Sport fishing is permitted in both the monument and the preserve under Alaska Department of Fish & Game regulations. A harvest record card and/or king salmon stamp may also apply depending on species and area.

Subsistence harvest by local residents operates under separate federal-and-state subsistence rules and is not available to visiting non-subsistence anglers.
  • Access and remoteness: Aniakchak is on the Alaska Peninsula, one of the least-visited units in the entire National Park System — annual visitation is among the lowest of any NPS unit. There are no roads, no in-park facilities, and access is by chartered float plane from King Salmon or Port Heiden. Weather frequently grounds flights for days at a time. Visiting anglers should plan multi-day weather windows and self-rescue capability.
