Louisiana's freshwater striped bass fishery is a stocked, landlocked one — natural reproduction is limited, so populations are maintained by annual fingerling releases. The flagship water is Toledo Bend Reservoir on the LA/TX border, where the Sabine River Authority, LDWF, and Texas have stocked stripers since 1990; the lake holds fish over 40 pounds and produced the LA state-record striped bass — 47 lb 8 oz, caught by James L. Taylor in August 1991. Anglers find schooling stripers on main-lake points, humps, and river-channel flats in summer and fall, and below the Toledo Bend dam on the Sabine River tailwater. Hybrid striped bass ('sunshine bass') are stocked more widely — Lake Claiborne, Poverty Point, Caney Lake, Cypress–Black Bayou and others.
