Chain pickerel — 'pickerel,' 'jack,' or 'southern pike,' named for the dark chain-link reticulation across its olive-green flanks — is Delaware's signature freshwater ambush predator and the largest member of the pike family native to the state's ponds + slow blackwater. DNREC classifies chain pickerel as a gamefish but imposes NO minimum size limit and NO daily creel limit (it does not appear in the DE non-tidal size/creel table) — only the general non-tidal gear rules apply (no more than two rods or poles per person, except five tip-ups while ice fishing; no more than three hooks or lures per rod).
