  • Park context: Cape Hatteras National Seashore protects ~70 miles of barrier-island Outer Banks from southern Bodie Island through Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island. Some of the most legendary surf-fishing on the Atlantic coast — Cape Point (the convergence of Diamond Shoals warm/cold water at the Hatteras elbow), the False Point, the Ocracoke beaches, and the Bonner Bridge area at Oregon Inlet are recognised destinations. Anglers find fish from the surf, piers (Avon Fishing Pier, the Bonner Bridge Pier on the south side of Oregon Inlet — 24-hour access), freshwater ponds, and from boats in the inlets, Pamlico Sound, and offshore in the Gulf Stream.
